Fundraiser Donor Spotlight: Drake Dawson of Safari Unlimited, LLC

Safari Unlimited is a repeat donor to SCI Lansing fundraisers with trips to Alaska, Belize, North Dakota, Serbia, and other destinations both domestic and international.
SCI: Give us an outline of your background.
Drake: I grew up in rural Missouri and started hunting and fishing as a very young child. My parents had a wanderlust for adventure and I was able to travel hunt, and fish to many worldwide exotic destinations growing up. A life-changing experience occurred during a safari in Rhodesia (renamed Zimbabwe 1979) I was able to take two elephants, a cape buffalo, and plains game and have priceless memories from that trip!
SC: When did you start your agency?
Drake: 1986. I was actually going to start law school at Pepperdine that fall and instead decided to start a hunting, fishing, and adventure booking agency and never looked back.
SCI: What can you share about your business principles?
Drake: Experience the world one adventure at a time” is our tagline and it is based on the principle that every trip is an adventure and the client’s experience is paramount to our success. As responsible agents, we visit every lodge or camp before offering it to our clients.
SCI: Any closing comments?
Drake: Our company is a leader in supporting hunting and fishing conversation. We arrange for over $350,000.00 in donations to SCI fundraisers and other select organizations. I was honored to be awarded the 2014 North American Professional Hunter of the year by Safari Club International.
